Free Estate Planning Provided by ANF

Cash | Bequests | Securities

Many people who support ANA and ANF say they derive great satisfaction from their generosity and would like to do more. ANF can suggest creative ways to support the Foundation that you might not have considered. This is a free service provided by ANF; there is no cost to help you plan your estate. Some examples of those planned gift vehicles are...

  • outright gifts
  • bequests
  • securities
  • various charitable gift annuities
  • charitable remainder annuity trust
  • charitable remainder unitrust
  • charitable lead trust
  • real estate
  • tangible personal property
  • bank accounts
  • certificates of deposit, and
  • retirement plan assets
A few of the easiest and most common types of planned gifts are listed below. These are a few examples of the many ways that you, your loved ones, and nurses and their patients can benefit from including ANF in your estate plans. Please note that this information is not intended as legal advice. For legal advice, consult an attorney. For financial advice, contact your financial advisor.

You can receive more information at no cost or obligation by contacting David Felzenberg, Major Gifts Specialist, at 301-628-5066 or via e-mail at dfelzenb@ana.org.

Cash

Nothing could be easier than making a gift of cash to ANF. It is the most common gift, and all cash donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Bequests

Have you made provisions in your Will to include the American Nurses Foundation? Bequests are the most popular type of planned gifts. However, it is estimated that as few as six percent (6%) of Americans actually take advantage of this opportunity. You can leave a specific bequest of a specified sum of money or a particular piece of property to the Foundation. Another option is to leave a percentage of your estate to ANF after making provisions for family and friends. For example, you could leave the Foundation a specific bequest of $100,000 or you could leave ANF 10 percent (10%) of the residue of your estate. A bequest to ANF will reduce the size of your taxable estate and will help to support valuable nursing programs. Your planned gift to ANF assures that your donation will be used in perpetuity.

Securities

Stocks and publicly traded securities are easy to give and offer great tax advantages. You can transfer the stock to us through your broker or mail the stock certificate to us and a signed stock power for each certificate. The certificates and the stock powers should be mailed separately. The best stocks to use for charitable giving are those that have increased greatly in value, particularly those producing a low yield. Even if it is stock you wish to keep in your portfolio, by giving ANF the stock and using cash to buy the same stock through your broker, you will have received the same income tax deduction but will have a new, higher basis in the stock.
