Kate Judge, Executive Director

Kate has more than 20 years of professional experience in the areas of fundraising, communication, and management. Her development work has supported education, healthcare, and human service missions in domestic and international organizations.

Most recently, Kate served as Assistant Dean at University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine, where she led fundraising for the school’s $125 million capital campaign. Prior to that, Kate directed development at Penn's top-ranked School of Nursing for eight years – with both Dean Norma Lang (past ANF Chair) and Dean Claire Fagin (ANF Hall of Fame member) – where she played an key role in creating one of the nation’s largest nursing scholarship programs. She has also directed development and communications at the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, and consulted with the national Red Cross organization in DC on affiliate/national coordinated fundraising.

Kate has focused particular attention in her work on the link between fundraising and finance within organizations. Her commitment to the non-profit sector as a volunteer has included board service with social service and religious organizations in the Philadelphia community. Kate earned a B.A. in anthropology from Beloit College.


Elizabeth Franzino, Director of Development


Elizabeth began her position of Director of Development at the American Nurses Foundation in May 2015. She has more than 17 years of professional experience in fundraising, including annual programs, corporate and foundation relations, special events, grant-writing and management.

Most recently, Elizabeth served as Foundation Director at Adventist HealthCare, where she led a centralized team of seven staff responsible for special events, annual giving, employee giving, database management and stewardship, for two acute care hospitals, two specialty hospitals, and other specialized healthcare programs at Adventist HealthCare. Prior to that, she served as the Assistant Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations at Georgetown University, and earlier began her career in fundraising at the Lab School of Washington, where she helped complete an $8.9 million campaign.

Elizabeth earned her B.A. in Classics from Cornell University, and an M.A. in Classics from the University of Virginia. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking and volunteering for local non-profits with her husband and two children.


Allison Nordberg, Project Manager: Nurses on Boards Initiative


Allison joined the Foundation in March 2015 as the Project Manager for the Nurses on Boards Initiative at the American Nurses Foundation. In this role, she provides day-to-day management of the Foundation’s efforts to increase the number of nurses on boards of directors.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Allison spent seven years at the United Nations Foundation in various roles, most recently as the Senior Associate for Global Health focused primarily on polio eradication. Allison is a graduate of the University of Richmond.

Kevin Cavanaugh, Corporate and Foundation Relations Manager
Kevin Cavanaugh

A New York-native, Kevin Cavanaugh is a versatile development professional with more than ten years of experience and expertise in stewarding individuals, foundations, and corporations at every stage of the fundraising cycle. Prior to joining the American Nurses Foundation, Mr. Cavanaugh helped to raise funds for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association International Foundation (NRECA International Foundation), and UNICEF.

Mr. Cavanaugh received graduate degrees in Public Administration and International Relations from Seton Hall University. As an undergraduate, he studied Hispanic Languages and Literature at Stony Brook University. He still enjoys reading short stories written by Latin American authors.


Elise Saks

Elise Saks joined the Foundation in April 2016. As the Donor Relations Associate, Elise is responsible for day to day donor management, assisting in the outreach of new and current donors, and providing financial support to the Foundation.

Prior to the joining the Foundation, Elise spent three years at a DC private school as a Development Associate. She has a Communication degree from the University of Maryland and enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. Fine dining and fashion are her two biggest passions.

Laurie Benson, Executive Director Nurses on Boards

Laurie Benson is a successful corporate executive, founder, CEO, C-Suite Advisor, and board member. An entrepreneur with over 35 years of experience, Laurie’s passion and skills are focused on helping organizations and individuals realize their potential. As a result of her own highly engaged Board of Directors, Laurie was inspired to provide a significant impact on other organizations through board service. She has served on 8 Corporate Boards in the Technology, Finance, Insurance, Manufacturing and Services industries. Additionally, she has expertise and is actively engaged in the Healthcare Industry through board service, executive leadership and innovation roles.

After 25 years as successful CEO, Ms. Benson founded LSB Unlimited in 2009, advising CEOs, Presidents and Entrepreneurs on complex leadership issues including board governance, strategy, business growth, innovation, high performance teams, human resources and succession planning.

Patricia Epstein, Administrative Assistant, Nurses on Boards Coalition

Patti joined the American Nurses Foundation in December 2016 as the Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director of Nurses on Boards Coalition. In this role, she is responsible for providing assistance to the Executive Director and Coalition leadership in execution of the strategic plan including fundraising and partnership building, coalition communications, meeting planning, and database reporting.

Before joining Nurses on Boards Coalition, Patti held leadership positions in high-tech industries, including ten years at Inacom Information Systems, a business co-founded by NOBC’s Executive Director, Laurie Benson. She has been recognized for operational excellence and specializes in delivering exceptional customer service on local and national levels.

Patti received her bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in Computer Science from Edgewood College, Madison, WI
