2014 Nursing Research Grants

Academy of Neonatal Nursing (ANN) and the Foundation for Neonatal Research and Education (FNRE): $5,000 – Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Academy of Neonatal Nursing (ANN). If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of ANN in order to receive funding. The focus of this grant is restricted to neonatal nursing.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC): $5,000 – Beginning. $10,000 – Experienced. Clinical research grants will be awarded to studies of systematic, data-guided activities designed to bring about improvement in healthcare delivery. The Foundation will award two (2) $5,000 grants to beginning researchers and two (2) $10,000 grants to experienced researchers, with one of each to be awarded to a clinical researcher at a Magnet facility.

ANA Presidential Scholar - American Nurses Association (ANA): $5,000 – Beginning Only - Preference is health disparities.

Anne Zimmerman, RN, FAAN: $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced - Related to nursing practice or social policy issues that will advance the profession.

Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC): $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced – Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC). If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of ANAC in order to receive funding. The focus of this grant is restricted to nurses working in HIV and HIV-related prevention care, treatment and/or research.

Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN): $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced – Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses. If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of AORN in order to receive funding. The focus of this grant is restricted to perioperative nurses. Proof of AORN membership must be included with the ANF application.

Chow/Togaski/Breitenbach: $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced – No Restrictions

Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS)/ANF: $5,000 – Beginning – The focus of this grant is restricted to postdoctoral fellow or new investigator who has completed the doctorate within the past 4 years current member in the CANS. Outcome criterion – presentation by the researcher is expected at a CANS conference within 2 years of completion.

CVS Caremark MinuteClinic (CVS): $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced – Preference given to a nurse practitioner providing care to patients in an ambulatory setting; or to an experience researcher studying the work of NPS providing care to patients in an ambulatory setting.

Dorothy A. Cornelius: $5000 – Beginning or Experienced – No restrictions

Eastern Nursing Research Society: $8,500 – Beginning or Experienced
Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS). If there are no member applications, or high-quality proposals from society members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of ENRS in order to received funding.

Eastern Nursing Research Society: $5,000 – Beginning
New Investigator Award - Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS). If there are no member applications, or high-quality proposals from society members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of ENRS in order to received funding.

Hildegard E. Peplau, EdD, RN, FAAN: $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced - Psychiatric/ mental health nursing with an interpersonal relations focus.

Infusion Nurses Society (INS): $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced
Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Infusion Nurses Society. If there are no member applications, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee encouraged to become a member of INS. The proposed research should be related to the science and practice of infusion therapy and/or infusion.

International Association of Forensic Nurses: $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced – Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the International Association of Forensic Nurses. If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses in order to receive the funding. This grant is restricted to research focused on forensic nursing science.

Jean E. Johnson, PhD, RN, FAAN: $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced – Research focused on the reduction of the negative impact of physical illnesses, especially cancer.

Eleanor Lambertson, EdD, RN, FAAN: - $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced – No restrictions.

Margretta Madden Styles Credentialing Research – $25,000 - Beginning or Experienced - This award is named for a past president of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the American Nurses Association, and the International Council of Nurses. Dr. Styles was the architect of the first comprehensive study of nursing credentialing and a lifelong advocate of its value to the public and the profession. The grant funds research on the impact of credentialing programs in nursing for patients, nurses, and healthcare organizations. Credentialing programs of interest include certification, accreditation, and recognition programs such as the Magnet Recognition Program® and the Pathway to Excellence Program®.

Mary Elizabeth Carnegie, DPA, MA, RN, FAAN: $12,500 - Beginning or Experienced - This $5,000 award is given in honor of Mary Elizabeth Carnegie whose leadership in nursing and pioneering mentorship of nurse researchers and Ethnic Minority Nurse Fellows epitomizes the vision of the ANF research grants program. The focus of the award is for research on African American nurses.

Midwest Nursing Research Society: $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced
Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS). If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from society members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of MNRS in order to receive funding.

National Association of School Nurses (NASN): $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced -
The National Association of School Nurses encourages research that is pertinent to school nursing or student health and well-being. The research study may be focused on school nurse impact on health disparities, students with chronic health conditions, student safety; innovative models of school nursing practice; cost-benefit analysis of school nursing; or impact of school nurse activities related to social determinants of health on student health and education outcomes. Current NASN membership and engagement in an area of school nurse practice, education or research is required.

Nurses Charitable Trust of Greater Miami: $5,000 Beginning or Experienced The Nurses Charitable Trustees are: Patricia R. Messmer, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, Chair; Sande Gracia Jones, PhD, ARNP, CS, ACRN, FAAN, Vice Chair; Charlotte Dison, RN, MSN, CNAA, Treasure; Barbara S. Russell, RN, MPH, CIC, ACRN, Secretary; Ann Marie Clyatt, RN, BSN, Trustee; JoAnn Gottlieb, PhD, ARNP-BC, CHPN, Trustee; Sandra Walsh, PhD, RN, FAAN, Trustee. The focus of this grant is Advanced Nursing Practice.

Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA): $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced – Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association. If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of PCNA in order to receive funding. The proposed research should address the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Presentation of results is expected at the annual meeting of the PCNA within two years of completion.

Rehabilitation Nurses Foundation (RNF): $5,000 - Beginning or Experienced - Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN). If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of ARN in order to receive funding. The proposed research should address an area of inquiry which relates to nursing-led interdisciplinary interventions to promote function in people of all ages with disability and/or chronic health problems, or the experience of disability and/or chronic health problems for individuals and families across the lifespan.

Sayre Memorial Scholar: - $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced - Applications which have patient care and leadership/management interactions will be given special consideration.

Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN)/ANF: $5,000 – Beginning
Applicant must be members of the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) at the time of application submission. Proof of SPN membership must be included with ANF application. Research topic must focus on pediatrics.

Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN)/ANF: $10,000 - Experienced
Applicant must be members of the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) at the time of application submission. Proof of SPN membership must be included with ANF application. Research topic must focus on pediatrics.

Southern Nursing Research Society: $10,000 – Beginning or Experienced
Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS). If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from society members, non-member applicants will be considered, with the selected grantee required to become a member of SNRS in order to receive funding.

Virginia S. Cleland Scholar: - $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced – Applicants which have nursing health policy implications will be given special consideration.

Virginia Kelley, CRNA: $10,000 – Beginning Only - Women’s health.

Virginia Stone, PhD, RN, FAAN: $30,000 – Beginning or Experienced – No restrictions.

Western Institute of Nursing (WIN): $5,000 – Beginning or Experienced – Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Western Institute of Nursing (WIN). If there are no member applications, or no high-quality proposals from association members, non-members applicants will be considered with the selected grantee required to become a member of WIN in order to receive funding.
